New Years Day we woke up later than usual and started plugging along getting ready. We then decided to go to the tidal pools since we noticed that the tides would be at an ideal time. It was sort of cool that day but the sun was out so it made it nice. We ended up at a beach that is close Maeda Flatts, my parents and I had gone snorkeling in this area once before so we new were it was at. So we put on our scuba booties and grabbed a plastic bag for treasures and away we went. It is nice to be able to find some areas that we can go tidal pooling since the water has gotten too cold to snorkel, but that should be changing soon.

The tidal pools around these areas are quite different then the ones I'm used to looking at along the Oregon coastline, but you never know what you might find. That day we found the usual sea urchins and sea slugs. However, as we were working our way back I happened to almost step on to this crab pictured. It was the first time I've ever seen a crab like this, so it was pretty exciting. Then we just wandered around the beach exploring areas. We also noticed some stairs that led up to a pretty old looking tomb. There also was another area we walked to that appeared to be some caves that were blocked up, and might have been some sacred areas, so we looked and then didn't linger too long.

That day we also made it up to Cape Manzamo. The water was again amazing. The waves were crashing up on the rocks very violently, which was neat. There is also a little rock formation that juts out into the water where several people were fishing. Then we headed home and relaxed from being out in the sun and wind all day.
